The formation of Mt. Olivet Society Men’s Fellowship is traced to have followed the same pattern where certain individuals-members of good standing in the Fellowship in other Societies-inspired by the good influence and purpose of the Fellowship, readily spread the good ideals whenever they found themselves among like-minded people. So it came to pass that, on Sunday 23rd August, 1981, the seed of the Mt. Olivet Men’s Fellowship was sown, with the following: late Bro. S. K. Ossei (the chief promoter), S. K. Annim, E. B. Acquah, R. J. Sam, A. B. Ampratwum, J. D. Kane, M. N. A. Gyasie, J. Sarpong-Dam, S. Fatu, Mike Dadson, Victor Koomson, J. F. Arthur, K. Amoako-Crentsil, J. K. J. Quansah, J. K. Obu, D.Y. Appiah and (now The Rev’d) D. D. Nunoo.
The initial problem was enormous as a result of which some foundation members began to abandon the then fledgling fellowship. However, eight members (Bros. S. K. Ossei, J. D. Kane, M.N.A. Gyasie, Mike Dadson, J. F. Arthur, K. Amoako-Crentsil, J. K. Obu and D. Y. Appiah) later referred to as the ‘faithful eight’ continued to pray and press on. It is worth mentioning that the joining of the fellowship later by Bro. S. K. Annim greatly encouraged the other members. He joined soon after he had been discharged from hospital and his testimony regarding how God had been with him during his trial period and healed him greatly encouraged the group to intensify their prayers and renew their faith in the Lord.
By God’s grace, the membership began to grow steadily. The news of the formation of the Mt. Olivet Men’s Fellowship travelled far and wide and soon the promoters were invited to attend a conference of all the fellowships in the Connexion at the Accra Calvary Methodist Society on 21 November 1981. The meeting set up a seven-member Interim Management Committee to take the necessary steps leading to the full recognition of the Mt. Olivet Branch Fellowship by the Methodist Church Ghana. God answered our prayers and soon Rev. J. S. Hutchful was posted as a Resident Minister to Mt. Olivet. His presence indeed brought new hope and enthusiasm and so membership started to grow rapidly.
Providentially, The Rev’d J. A. Y. Adubah, then a student Minister (a past Bishop and now Superintendent Minister of Dansoman Circuit) who had been attached to the Mt. Olivet Society also helped greatly.
On Sunday 31 July 1983, the Mt. Olivet Men’s Fellowship, with a membership of forty-two, was inaugurated by the Rt. Rev’d Hawl Entsua-Mensah, the then Superintendent Minister of Accra North Circuit. In attendance was The Rt. Rev’d J. K. Takyi-Ansah the then Conference Secretary. Mt. Olivet thus became the tenth (10th) Fellowship to be inaugurated in the Connexion.
