HISTORY OF MT. OLIVET CHRIST’S LITTLE BAND
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19). It is as a result of the Mt. Olivet Methodist Society, Dansoman, carrying out this Great Commission that the Mt. Olivet Christ’s Little Band also came into being. The Society had started effective evangelism and this led to increase in church membership and the need to open a branch of the Christ’s Little Band to help support the Society‘s work, was felt.
Consequently, a meeting was arranged by Mrs. Margaret Annim for all members of the Christ’s Little Band from the Calvary Methodist Society, Adabraka and other Out-stations to meet and plan how best to bring this about. At the time, Chapel Services were held in the Round House of the St. Martin de Porres Preparatory School in Dansoman. An announcement was therefore made during one Chapel Service and an informal meeting was held after the Service. Present were:
Sis. Margaret Annim
Sis. Esther Acquaye
Sis. Lydia Winful (Nee Arhin)
Sis. Rose Quansah
Sis. Faustina Ackom
Sis. Mary Owusu (deceased)
Sis. Dorcas Essilfie (deceased)
A maiden meeting of the Mt. Olivet Christ’s Little Band came off on Friday 31st March ,1978 which saw five of the brethren who attended the initial meeting present. Brother J. K. Anderson, who was on a visit from Calvary Methodist Society acted as the Secretary. These brethren still had to be attending meetings of the Calvary Methodist Society Christ’s Little Band which were held on Wednesdays. As an infant Society that was under the Calvaray Society, the brethren were compelled to shift their meeting days to Fridays until when the Band became well-grounded. As a result of effective membership drive, the numbers increased rapidly. After almost a year of hard work, devotion and dedication, the Mt. Olivet Christ’s Little Band was inaugurated with thirty-five (35) members, on Friday, 11th March, 1979 by Nana Essilfie Bondzie of blessed memory. The current membership stands at one hundred and forty-three (143), made up of one hundred and twenty-seven (127) females and sixteen males. To date, the Band has had thirteen (13) Presidents with their full complement of executive members.
